A Pollster Who’s Tracked Opinion on Ukraine Since 2022 Says Americans Want Peace — But Not at Any Price

Americans would rather Ukraine keep fighting than accept a deal that collapses, HarrisX CEO Dritan Nesho says. Europeans back higher defense spending and even an EU army — but barely a third think their country could handle a major crisis.

A majority of Americans want a negotiated end to Russia’s war against Ukraine, but most of them would rather see the war conclude on terms that hold than end quickly.

“A slight majority want a solution sooner rather than later, but what’s interesting is that close to 70% support a continued fight in order to reach a peace deal that is honorable and self-standing — that will actually survive — rather than rushing into a deal that then falls apart,” says Dritan Nesho, founder and CEO of HarrisX, which conducted the study with GLOBSEC, one of Europe’s leading independent foreign policy and security think tanks. “That’s a good starting point to build from.”
