Donald Trump’s Approval Rating Quietly Shifts With Youngest Voters
By Sam Stevenson

Newsweek drew on three months of Harvard CAPS / Harris polling to look at how President Trump’s job approval has changed among the youngest registered voters ahead of the midterms.

Among registered voters ages 18 to 24, our surveys found:

  • July: 25% approve, 67% disapprove (net -42)
  • August: 38% approve, 57% disapprove (net -19)
  • September: 41% approve, 54% disapprove (net -13)

By September, Trump’s approval among 18-to-24-year-olds (41%) was slightly higher than among voters 55 and older (39%).

The article also looks at what may be behind the shift and whether it will affect turnout in November, with commentary from Melissa R. Michelson of Menlo College.

The September Harvard CAPS / Harris poll was conducted online September 26–28, 2026, among 2,200 registered voters.
